How to Grow strong Healthy Nails

HOW TO GROW STRONG & HEALTHY NAILS

Healthy and strong nails are pretty much every girl's dream. Whether they serve as a first defense or a canvas to display your beauty, maintaining the health and strength of your nails is essential. During my childhood, I struggled with nail-biting, going so far as to damage them up to the nail bed. I would often admire those with beautiful nails and yearn to have them myself. However, in moments of nervousness or anxiety, I would succumb to the habit of biting my nails, and this persisted throughout my school years. Everything changed when I fell in love with my now-husband; miraculously, I ceased to bite my nails. Love has a remarkable transformative power ✨️ and it indeed transformed my hands with beautiful strong and healthy nails. Once It started to grow and I was admiring it so much, I never bit my nail again. No matter how nervous and anxious I may be. Well that's a little throw back and I m sure you all want to know how to grow stronger and healthier nails. So let's dive into it.

Strong nail growth starts with changing some lifestyle habits such as my nail biting, if you do have that habit, girl! You need to cure that first. There are many products like nail deterrent serums available that you can apply to your nails and it will repel you from putting those fingers in the mouth and eventually nail biting will stop and promote nail growth.

But let's say you do not have that habit but your nails are weak and fragile then let's talk about some home remedies you can try, which I follow religiously myself, for stronger, healthier and sparkling nails. First, we need to keep them clean and the method I use is as follows.

Take a white toothpaste ( not those fancy colored, sparkling gel toothpaste) and baking soda. Mix pea size toothpaste and 1/4th tsp or so baking soda and with old toothbrush (don't use your husband's or boyfriend's toothbrush thinking what they will not know:) 😉 ) and gently brush your nails taking care of every corners and underneath your nails. This will remove dirt and grime for sure but also strengthen the nail surface. Do this twice a week at least. It also helps brighten and whiten them and make them look more healthy.

Alternatively if you do not find a white toothpaste, you can use lime/lemon wedge and baking soda. Sprinkle some baking powder on the lime wedge or used lime skin (after you squeezed the juice, do not throw away the peel as it can be reused for this routine) and gently rub them on your nails. This will exfoliate your nail and remove unwanted cuticle nits and bits promoting the growth of the nails. Vitamin C and baking soda is amazing growth promoters for nails. It will sure leave your nails refreshed, nourished and squeaky clean. You may use both remedies alternatively.

Next, is hydrating your cuticles and nails. Cleaning & exfoliating will leave your hands little dried so I always use this homemade special blended salve or balm for my cuticles and hands. It's my must-have cuticle salve that I use religiously several times a day or at least every time I wash my hands. I have couple of recipes and you can choose depending on what ingredient you have handy.

1st Recipe (Very effective in winters)

**Take a clean, dry, wide mouth jar to store this salve.**

Heat a spoon on stove, with that heated spoon scoop a Vaseline as it melts effortlessly. Similarly, scoop the coconut oil and take same amount of Almond oil or Olive oil. Mix well. Add 2 capsules of Vitamin E. Just puncture the capsule and add the vitamin E into the mixture. Mix well. You may use any essential oil of your choice for fragrance like Jasmine or Sandalwood or Rose Hip oil. I use 2 drops of Jasmine oil, and it is very fragrant. Store the mixture in the jar. 

This hydrating balm is ready to use on your nails and cuticles. Massage gently on your nails, and massage your fingers which will improve blood flow to your finger tips and eventually promoting growth of your nails. The balm is very moisturizing and immediately you will notice smooth supple hands and your cuticles will thank you.

2nd Recipe

Take freshly made ghee (Clarified Butter) click here for recipe

1 tbsp of ghee
1/2 tbsp Almond oil
1/2 tbsp of olive oil
1/4 tbsp of coconut oil
2 drops of essential oil (Rose and Jasmine ❤️)
1 capsule of Vitamin E
Mix well and use as a moisturizer to massage your nails and fingers.


Leave On Mask
For extremely rough and dry hands and it can be a winter treatment.
Take a disposable gloves, the ones you get with hair color kits. Mix olive oil + coconut oil + Almond oil. With a Dropper add 2-3 drops in the gloves and apply few drops of mixture to your nails and hands. Wear the gloves and leave it on for 30 minutes. Remove after 30 minutes and massage the remainder of mixture until it's well absorbed. This will moisturize the skin deeply and leave your hands super soft and supple. You can wear them overnight also. 

Scrub for wrinkled and dull hands

2 Tbsp of Fresh cream (Malai)
1 tsp of fine crystal sugar
1 tsp lime juice

Mix everything in a bowl and scrub gently back of your hands and fingers for at least 10 minutes. Rinse with normal water and you'll notice soft, supple hands. If you repeat this process 2 times a week you will notice improvement in your skin texture, as it will be less wrinkled and soft.

If you really want to get a ready-made nail growth serum than I would highly suggest this serum as it is very affordable and convenient and packed with nutrients like Vitamin E, keratin, biotin and proteins that are essential for nail growth. It instantly smooth the cuticles and promote faster nail growth. Few important things to keep in mind to protect your nails. (if you are nail artist or nail enthusiast like me, consider your nails as a valuable asset :) )

• Wear gloves while washing dishes or cleaning to protect your hands and nails from harsh chemicals.

• Apply cuticle oil or salve multiple times a day.

• If possible keep your nails painted, it adds a layer of protection to prevent from daily wear and tear, even clear nail polish will help.
